Decades of wishful thinking have finally come to an end. I am self-publishing for the first time, and it’s a fully completed novel. Not just any novel, but the story-I-was-born-to-tell novel. I thought my first self-published book would be poetry, and while there are definitely books of poetry to follow, I am so proud that this is the first one. I have been in hiding as a writer. I’ve stayed consistent with my poetry under my poet name, but other than that, everything has been private for quite a few years now.
This is my reintroduction to the world of literature, and the plans for the future are many. Because of all the work I’ve been doing while locking myself away in my she-shed, I have so many books that I’ll be releasing over the next few years. The summer of 2027 launches my first full-length novel. The fall of 2027 will bring the first of many children’s books in a series I am incredibly excited to release to the public. It’s an adventure series about a toddler and her pets embarking on imaginary journeys around the world. I can’t wait! Then, from spring through fall of 2028, I’ll begin releasing the first of many poetry collections.
Over the next year, I want to do as much learning as I can from other authors and from readers as well. I want to immerse myself in as many online book clubs and literary communities as possible. I want to know what authors are thinking and feeling as they’re writing, publishing, signing books, and speaking in front of people. I want to know about the behind-the-scenes moments and the inner thoughts. And I want to know the readers of all the genres. What motivates you to read what you read? What do you feel when you read it? What makes you lose interest in a book? What keeps you turning that next page?
When was the last time you related to a character so deeply that it felt as if someone had been reading your journal and living your life? Or even better, when was the last time a character was so good that you got lost in them and, for a little while, forgot a hardship you were going through? I want to get to know the people who live in the only world where I have ever found solace… books!
After a bad experience with a publishing company, I lost my confidence and knew it wasn’t time for me yet. Eventually, I started gaining that confidence back, but I still waited because I wasn’t sure of the identity I wanted to share with the world. And then I had an epiphany. I was born a free spirit in a life that was anything but free. My writing is the only place I have for complete freedom.
I refuse to put myself into any specific category, label, or box that needs to be checked. If I refuse that for myself, why would I put any box or label on my readers? I won’t! So, if you’re the type of person who is easily offended or a keyboard warrior for anyone you think might be offended, I am not the right author for you, and that’s okay. But if you connect or relate to anything I’ve said here, you are exactly the kind of person I am eager to meet and hear from.
My hope is to eventually put a community message forum somewhere on this website to give us all a place to interact, share thoughts, ideas, and questions. A place to talk about writing, reading, characters, stories, and everything else that happens when people who love books find one another.
As you can see, there are so many awesome things to come for Moon-Kissed Quill Publications. So, welcome to the world where the moon meets the sun and bursts onto the page in beautiful colors.
I was made for this life.
